Alexandros Giannakis Photography

About Alexandros Giannakis

Alexandros Giannakis abandoned a career in Marine Transportation Management and International Business in order to follow his true passion, photography. His first steps into the field were shown to him by his father, Georgios, when Alexandros was only 13 years old. Georgios presented him a manual AGFA German camera and told Alexandros: "When it's sunny, you use 125 Speed and 11 F-Stop, and when it's cloudy you use 60 Speed and 8 F-Stop". Georgios was not a photographer himself; in fact he is a civil engineer, but he taught Alexandros enough that day to begin a hobby that will become the passion of his life.

Alexandros is fascinated by dance photography, which he started shooting while he was still in Greece. The lack of light and the high speeds the dancers move is the ultimate challenge for a photographer, he believes. In New York he mastered the field. He has worked with major dance companies in New York City, as well others cities around the world. His pictures have appeared in major dance magazines. Alexandros was also the official photographer of the ELAN awards, the equivalent of Oscars for choreographers.

In his career, he has also worked with a great number of musicians and record labels, doing a large number of artist portraits and CD covers.

In recent years, Alexandros has been doing fashion photography, which was always his ultimate goal. He has worked with various magazines, both online and print, as well as numerous fashion designers and stylists. He is also a published cover photographer.

Alexandros has done six individual exhibitions on Dance photography. Five of them were held in NYC (Fashion Institute of Technology, The French Institute and the Faran Center) and one in Pennsylvania (Bucks County Community College). He also exhibited at the Greek Consulate in collaboration with two other photographers.

He is now working on his eighth exhibition, which he guarantees to be controversial.

Alexandros is also working in the fields of Interior and Architectural photography and Advertising.
